Does routing with graphhopper and mapzen have length restrictions?

When I route from Tenerife to mainland Spain both Graphhopper and Mapzen do not find any routes.

Strangely, it works if you use a stop along the way with Graphhopper.

I remember that this worked without problems about two years ago.

Why doesn’t it work now (to find a route from Spain to Tenerife)? Is there a length restriction?

(I have no local Graphhopper or Mapzen installation, so can’t check the logs and don’t want to bother the developers, yet.)
